Oakland, CA. (Nov. 20, 2014) Vigilent announced today that its dynamic cooling management systems, deployed in mission critical facilities on four continents, reduced energy consumption by more than half a billion kilowatt hours and eliminated 351,000 tons of CO2 emissions. These persistent savings, achieved through greater efficiency in cooling control operations, continue to grow with each new deployment.
“Efficiency matters,” says Vigilent CEO Dave Hudson. “Our technology is changing the conversation around how much energy is required to cool a data center. We’re proud that we have been able to make a tangible impact on the environment and on our customers’ profitability. That’s something very few companies can claim.”
Data centers are frequently cited as one of the fastest growing consumers of electrical energy in the world. Since cooling energy represents up to half of their energy usage, data center facilities have increasingly targeted this area for improved efficiency.
Vigilent reduces cooling energy consumption by precisely and dynamically matching the amount of cooling required for the current IT load. Using predictive control driven by machine learning software, the Vigilent system continually tunes and automatically optimizes cooling in every location throughout the data center floor. Cooling energy consumption is reduced by an average of 38% immediately upon deployment. Using a wireless sensor mesh network for granular monitoring of all thermal conditions and control communication, the system installs quickly and easily with minimal configuration in virtually any type of data center and telecommunication facility.
In addition to energy savings, Vigilent provides facility managers with insightful tools to visualize airflow and further tune their facility for efficiency and performance.
